In The Lush River Valley Region,
Between The Boston Mountain Range & The Ouachita Mountain Range

Ft. Smith's temperate climate allows residents to enjoy outdoor activities for about 10 months per year. Enjoy fishing, rafting and canoeing on the shores of the Arkansas River. Visit our many local parks to find great spots for hiking, camping or bird-watching.
And of course, hit the links on one of our 3 local golf courses, or one of the other 5 public courses in the surrounding vicinity.

Perhaps the most prominent piece of history in town is the Fort Smith National Historic Site, which includes the remains of the original 1817 fort on the Arkansas River. One of the highlights is the 2-story barracks from the second fort, which in the early 1870s became the Federal Courthouse for the Western District of Arkansas.

Kay Rodgers Park is home to the annual Old Fort Rodeo Days and the Arkansas/Oklahoma State Fair, as well as numerous other races and festivals.

With outdoor activities, outstanding cultural events, rural settings, excellent school systems and other amenities, Ft. Smith is an ideal place to live.
